Have questions about our services, therapy process, or what to expect? Find answers to common questions below.
Children as young as 3 years old can benefit from therapy. This may include sand play, imaginary play, crafting or games.
Yes, therapy can be provided in-person or virtually. With young children in-person would be best, though virtual sessions for older children, teens and adults provide more flexibility for busy schedules.
Yes, your child will be playing in sessions; using various materials, toys, sensory items (clay, paint, sand, etc.) and possibly exploring social stories. This allows children to learn self-acceptance, build self-worth and esteem, transform memories, increase self-control, express emotions, all within an attuned therapeutic relationship. In time, this approach supports children with self-understanding and increased verbal expression. Parent coaching sessions are also available.
At Brave Village Therapy, we believe that anyone can benefit from therapy, as it provides a safe therapeutic space to explore challenges, gain self-awareness, build resilience and learn new skills. Feel free to reach out with any specific questions about whether therapy is the right fit for yourself or your child.
Service begins with an intake session, which is the same cost as a therapy session and could be in-person, virtual or by telephone. This involves sharing information such as strengths, challenges, and goals to support with treatment planning. After the intake session, the next few sessions work towards building trust and strengthening the therapeutic relationship, while getting to know one another better.
Great questions! How often depends on need. Typically, during the initial beginning phase of therapy weekly sessions are best, likely for 4-6 weeks. This allows time to establish a therapeutic relationship, build trust, and explore appropriate tasks or interventions that fit best to achieve the desired goal. The next middle phase involves processing emotions, increasing self awareness, and learning new skills to support with long term behaviour change. The final maintenance phase involves planning for therapy to conclude and may include reviewing progress and planning for closure. Therapy may be re-started at any time, as needed.
No, Brave Village Therapy does not currently bill directly to insurance. Many insurance companies will cover the cost or a portion of the cost for therapy by a Registered Social Worker. Sessions will be billed directly to you and due immediately upon completion of each session. A receipt will be made available to provide to your insurance provider for reimbursement. It is suggested to consult with your insurance provider to know exactly what they cover and how much, as some providers have yearly limits.
It's understandable that life can become busy and scheduling conflicts arise. When needed the expectation is that a session is rescheduled with a minimum of 24 hours notice allowing the time to be provided to another who may be awaiting service. If cancellation occurs within 24 hours then the full session fee will be charged.
At Brave Village Therapy, we take privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Virtual sessions and all documentation is stored in a practice management software system that complies with PHIPAA (Personal Health Information Privacy and Access Act). Consent is required for sharing information with collaterals. Any information sharing among family members is explored as appropriate in sessions.
